Founded in 2004 by Andrew Yeomans and Chris Robeson, for its first three years Bude Arts Modern comprised four members - Andrew, Chris, Louise Stevens and Adrian Stevens, all local artists.

BAM's members focus on modern and contemporary styles of art, following the group's fundamental aim to establish Bude as much a centre for more abstract artistic styles as the more traditional styles for which it is better well known.

Since its inception, BAM has held four annual Summer exhibitions in Bude. The first three exhibited the works of each of the four original members. After Louise and Adrian Stevens left BAM in 2007, BAM's Summer 2008 exhibition saw three guest artists join the two founder members in the newly opened Willoughby Gallery in Bude's Castle Heritage Centre.
